The meeting took place as India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, visited Moscow for two days. Putin expressed his intention for the meeting to potentially occur at the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation gathering. Additionally, he is anticipated to travel to New Delhi for the BRICS leaders’ summit scheduled for September.
President Putin underscored the burgeoning trade relations between Russia and India, noting that Moscow is boosting its fertilizer exports to India and is willing to expand these supplies further. This move highlights the strengthening economic ties between the two nations amid ongoing global shifts.
As part of his visit, Jaishankar engaged in discussions with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov. Their talks focused on enhancing bilateral trade and economic collaboration. Manturov mentioned the possibility of localizing nuclear fuel production in India, indicating a deepening of strategic cooperation in the energy sector.
Jaishankar is also expected to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to deliberate on bilateral relations as well as various regional and global issues. These discussions are likely aimed at fortifying the partnership between the two countries in light of evolving international dynamics.
