Google has introduced its Gemini in Chrome artificial intelligence features to Android users in India, allowing them to access AI-powered assistance directly within the Chrome browser. This update brings features such as webpage summarization, integration with Google services like Gmail and Calendar, and even image generation capabilities.
Gemini in Chrome functions as an AI assistant that enhances browsing by offering simplified webpage summaries and facilitating connections with various Google services. In addition, a more sophisticated auto-browse feature is available for Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers, enabling the AI to navigate websites and perform tasks on users’ behalf, such as comparing products, booking tickets, and scheduling appointments.
The auto-browse feature is designed to handle complex, multi-step web tasks, effectively reducing the need for users to switch between multiple webpages or perform numerous actions manually. This enhancement enables users to complete activities that are typically cumbersome and time-consuming.
To ensure safe interactions with websites, Google has implemented specific safeguards within the Gemini browsing features. These include the detection of potential threats like prompt-injection attempts, and users may be prompted to confirm any sensitive actions before they are executed. Such measures are crucial when AI systems have the capability to modify information, submit forms, or conduct transactions on behalf of the user.
The scope of multi-step tasks that can be performed through the auto-browse feature is determined by the user’s Google AI subscription level. Google AI Pro subscribers can make up to 20 multi-step requests per day, while Google AI Ultra subscribers have an allowance of up to 200 requests daily. This expansion highlights Google’s effort to integrate more agentic AI capabilities into Chrome, moving beyond simple AI queries to more advanced task execution across the web.
