Swedish company Opsio, specializing in cloud and artificial intelligence solutions, has unveiled its new service, PrismIQ, aimed at revolutionizing the manufacturing sector with its automated visual inspection capabilities. This technology, now commercially available in India, is designed to identify production defects in real time, with plans for a broader international rollout in the near future. PrismIQ is engineered to work with industrial cameras and deep-learning models tailored to each manufacturer’s specific products, efficiently detecting issues like surface defects, cracks, contamination, dimensional variations, and assembly errors during the production process.
By integrating this inspection technology on edge hardware directly within production lines, PrismIQ facilitates quick processing of inspection results without solely depending on manual checks. The data can be seamlessly integrated into existing PLC and SCADA systems, thereby supporting automated sorting and production-line decisions. Opsio highlights that this solution addresses the challenges associated with manual inspections, particularly in high-speed manufacturing environments where inspecting each product individually can be challenging. The system’s active-learning capability leverages production data to continuously improve its detection models.
PrismIQ is offered as a comprehensive service, distinct from standalone vision software. Opsio manages the entire process, from camera and lens configuration to model development, validation, factory integration, and ongoing operations. The service package also includes operator training, quality dashboards, and regular performance evaluations. According to Opsio, transitioning from a feasibility assessment to a full production deployment typically takes between eight to twelve weeks.
India was chosen as the initial launch market due to its rapidly expanding manufacturing sector and Opsio’s established presence, including an AI Lab in Bengaluru focused on industrial applications. The company’s headquarters in Karlstad, Sweden, oversees the development of this technology. PrismIQ is initially targeting manufacturers in the automotive, electronics, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical industries, starting with a feasibility study and proof-of-concept using the manufacturer’s product samples.
Daniel Hedlund, Chairman of Opsio, emphasized the significance of quality in elevating India’s burgeoning manufacturing sector to a globally competitive level. Praveena Shenoy, Opsio India’s Country Manager, anticipates that the introduction of automated inspection will enable manufacturers to detect defects earlier and enhance their quality-control processes.
