India’s Union Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, recently engaged in discussions with Finnish leaders to bolster economic collaboration and enhance trade and investment between the two nations. The meetings were held separately with Finland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Riikka Purra, as well as Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto.
The conversations centered on expanding cooperation in vital sectors such as digitalisation, innovation, and research and development. Both parties expressed interest in fostering growth in startups and business partnerships. Additionally, they explored collaboration opportunities in cutting-edge fields like artificial intelligence, 6G technology, quantum computing, semiconductors, space exploration, and sustainability initiatives.
A significant agenda item was the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The discussions revolved around how this proposed agreement could potentially boost bilateral trade, draw investments, and create new business opportunities. The FTA is seen as a crucial step in enhancing economic ties between India and the EU.
