Maharashtra has mandated Aadhaar authentication for the registration of immovable property documents starting October 1, in a move aimed at reducing fraud and enhancing identity verification. This requirement affects 63 types of property registrations, including sale, purchase, mortgage, and partition deeds.
According to Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the initiative seeks to curb issues such as impersonation, fake documentation, and excessive human intervention in the registration process. The government asserts that the new system will make property registration more secure, transparent, and efficient.
Individuals without an Aadhaar number must provide proof of their application for Aadhaar, in addition to other government-issued identity documents. The information provided will undergo verification before finalizing the transaction.
Special provisions have been established for minors and certain eligible categories. Notably, children who do not possess an Aadhaar number will not be denied property registration benefits solely due to the absence of this identification.
