The West Bengal government is set to formalize a partnership with the central government to establish a new airport in the Purulia district, according to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The agreement, part of the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, will be signed on September 28.
The project aims to enhance air connectivity in Purulia, a region looking to bolster its tourism, infrastructure, and industrial sectors. Preparations for the airport are reportedly complete, with the state government having already submitted an application for the necessary operational license. A representative from the civil aviation authorities has been actively involved in the discussions, ensuring compliance and progress.
Beyond improving transportation access, the West Bengal government is actively seeking substantial investments in Purulia. The district has been identified as a potential hub for industries such as defense, steel, cement, and solar energy. Adhikari mentioned that these sectors could attract investments amounting to approximately ₹1 lakh crore over the next year.
The new airport is expected to be a catalyst for economic activity in the district, aligning with broader efforts to stimulate growth and development in the region. The Purulia project underlines the government’s commitment to leveraging infrastructure development as a means to drive regional prosperity and attract large-scale investments.
