Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized Uttar Pradesh’s growing role in India’s defense manufacturing sector during the inauguration of the UP International Trade Show in Greater Noida. Shah highlighted the production of BrahMos missiles in the state, stating they were causing concern for neighboring Pakistan. The UP Defence Industrial Corridor, encompassing six key areas including Lucknow and Kanpur, is seeing significant investment, he noted.
Shah showcased the BrahMos Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow as a testament to the state’s expanding capabilities. This facility, inaugurated in May 2025, is responsible for the assembly, integration, and testing of the supersonic cruise missile. The first batch from this facility was dispatched in October 2025. Established with an investment of approximately ₹300 crore over nearly 200 acres, the facility aims to bolster indigenous defense production and support local industries and employment.
The Home Minister also mentioned the production of AK-203 assault rifles in Amethi as another example of Uttar Pradesh’s defense manufacturing prowess. Additionally, Shah pointed out that the state’s improved law-and-order situation and industrial growth were key factors in attracting further investment. He lauded the One District, One Product initiative for fostering local industry expansion and creating job opportunities for the youth.
The UP International Trade Show 2026, running from September 25 to 29, serves as a platform for manufacturers, MSMEs, exporters, artisans, startups, investors, and international buyers to converge and explore business opportunities. Shah’s remarks highlight the strategic importance of Uttar Pradesh in India’s defense sector and its potential to drive economic growth through industrial development.
