Trump Claims Deal on Hamas Disarmament; Israel’s Confirmation Pending

President Donald Trump has declared a “historic” agreement aimed at the complete disarmament of Hamas, a development he suggests could significantly reduce the long-standing conflict in Gaza. Announced via social media, Trump’s proposal outlines a plan for Hamas to dismantle its military capabilities, including the destruction of tunnel networks and the surrender of heavy weaponry, all under international supervision. In exchange, the plan envisions a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, with an international stabilization force and a new Palestinian security administration stepping in to maintain order.

While Trump has touted this agreement as a breakthrough, neither the Israeli government nor Hamas has officially confirmed its existence. According to the proposal, military operations would cease entirely before the disarmament process begins. This process would be closely monitored by an international verification committee tasked with overseeing the dismantling of heavy weapons, tunnels, and military infrastructure.

Reports suggest that Hamas has tentatively accepted the framework, with disarmament preparations potentially starting within 14 days, pending international approval and consensus among all involved parties. Nonetheless, official endorsement from Israel has yet to be secured, as the nation has expressed reservations about the current proposal.

Israeli authorities maintain that any broader agreement hinges on the complete disarmament and demilitarization of Gaza, emphasizing that the current plan does not fully satisfy their security requirements. Despite these diplomatic moves, military activities continued in Gaza, underscoring the uncertainty surrounding the actual implementation of this proposed agreement.
