Pralhad Joshi Takes Over as India’s New Education Minister

Pralhad Joshi has assumed additional responsibilities as India’s Education Minister, marking the start of his tenure with a strategic review of the nation’s significant educational initiatives, including the roll-out of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. After taking office at Kartavya Bhavan in New Delhi, Joshi engaged with senior officials from both the Departments of School Education and Higher Education to gain insights into the ministry’s current projects and objectives.

Recognizing education as a new area for him, Joshi expressed that he would require some time to thoroughly comprehend the ministry’s operations before making any detailed statements. He emphasized that the role was entrusted to him by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and outlined his commitment to understanding the department’s dynamics while maintaining continuity in the implementation of key educational programs.

The appointment comes following the resignation of former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, which was accepted by President Droupadi Murmu. Joshi has pledged to uphold the momentum of existing educational schemes and ensure the effective execution of the NEP 2020, a policy deemed pivotal for the country’s educational reform.

Joshi’s initial meetings with department officials focused on evaluating the progress of ongoing initiatives and understanding the challenges faced by the education sector. His approach is expected to be one of gradual familiarization, enabling him to make informed decisions that align with the government’s educational priorities.
