Indian stock markets closed on a positive note on Monday, buoyed by softer-than-expected U.S. employment data and a decline in crude oil prices, which helped lift investor sentiment. The BSE Sensex rose by 472.77 points, or 0.66%, settling at 72,382.47, after reaching an intraday high of 72,631.93. The Nifty 50 also increased, gaining 133.80 points, or 0.60%, to finish at 22,555.75.
The rally was led by major gainers such as ITC, Eternal, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance, Adani Ports, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, and Larsen & Toubro. However, some stocks like HCL Technologies, HDFC Bank, Sun Pharma, Infosys, and Asian Paints saw declines.
Investor confidence was bolstered by weaker U.S. jobs data, which reduced the likelihood of aggressive interest rate hikes by the U.S. Federal Reserve. Additionally, lower crude oil prices, with Brent crude trading around $102.40 a barrel, eased inflation concerns, further supporting market sentiment.
Looking ahead, investors are keeping a close eye on upcoming domestic economic events, including the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy decision and the next corporate earnings season, which could further influence market movements.
Meanwhile, Asian markets showed mixed results, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 gaining over 2%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index ended slightly higher, reflecting varied investor reactions across the region.
