China Urges Enhanced India Cooperation to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

In a recent meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between China and India, urging both nations to sustain the positive momentum in their bilateral relationship. This call to action was made during discussions with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, where Wang highlighted the need for both countries to enhance high-level exchanges and broaden their collaboration across various sectors including trade, media, culture, and people-to-people interactions.

Wang underscored the significance of managing sensitive issues through dialogue and proposed that China and India should work in tandem on regional and international matters. He advocated for both nations to support the idea of multipolarity and to collectively represent the interests of developing countries on the global stage. Additionally, he reaffirmed China’s backing of India as it hosts this year’s BRICS summit and called for increased cooperation within the expanded BRICS framework.

On India’s part, Jaishankar expressed the country’s commitment to fostering a positive and cooperative relationship with China. He reiterated India’s long-held positions on sensitive issues concerning Taiwan and Xizang (Tibet), emphasizing India’s respect for China’s sovereignty. This mutual dialogue signals both nations’ intent to stabilize and deepen their ties following recent improvements in their bilateral relations.

The meeting between Wang and Jaishankar reflects ongoing efforts by the two countries to bolster their partnership and manage challenges through constructive engagement. As both nations navigate their complex relationship, the focus remains on expanding cooperation and enhancing mutual understanding, which could lead to significant advancements in their diplomatic and economic engagements.
